Why join a Café Discussion? Top 5 reasons

Learning and mastering a language is a long and complex process, there are many important stages to go through and skills to learn. Here are the top five reasons why joining our discussions can help you on your journey.

1. Express yourself: Have you ever had a wonderful point to make, that you would be able to express elegantly in your native language, but couldn't find the words in English? I know how frustrating this can be. Our discussions are your chance to practice expressing yourself, giving your opinion and saying what you think. I will be there to help you along the way and support you.
2. Build Confidence: Have you ever listened to someone speak in English, make lots of mistakes but at the same time be understood and sound great? This is confidence. And it takes time to build when speaking another language. Our discussions will support you as you build your confidence. It's ok to make mistakes, it is an important stage of learning, a stage you have to go through. And it is a learning opportunity which I will help you benefit from.
3. You will hear a variety of accents: One of the things that learners of English tell me they struggle most with is the sheer variety of accents there are. There are over 160 distinct english dialects throughout the world including native and non-native. Our café is a truly international and multicultural place where you will get the opportunity to listen to and understand a variety of accents.
4. Listening and Speaking: Some people are great at reading and writing English but struggle when it comes to speaking and understanding what they hear. Joining our discussions is your chance to build upon these two vital skills for mastering English.
5. Exchange ideas and culture: When I was talking on my phone one time while on the public bus in Japan, the bus driver stopped the bus, came down to my seat and politely asked me stop talking on my phone. I was mortified. I didn't realise that you are not supposed to use your phone on public transport.  Well I soon learned. This incidence is an example of a culture difference between Japan and Ireland, where people are happy to gab away while on the bus. In our meetings, you will learn wonderful and interesting things about other cultures and countries. Why do people eat dinner in Spain at 9pm? Let's ask one of our Spanish participants.
